Description
I am looking for a loving, warm, capable, hard-working, flexible person to be the assistant teacher in my home-based child care program. This small preschool program is based in Waldorf and RIE philosophies. Someone with knowledge or experience in these methods would be ideal, though it is not necessary as long as you have a willingness to learn and flexibility to follow the lead teacher.
Main duties for the assistant teacher will include: interacting with both children and parents, cooking, cleaning, assisting children with caretaking tasks (dressing, diapers, toileting, etc), involving children in age-appropriate activities, reading, playing, and having fun! A love for nature is a must as we will spend the majority of our time outside in the yard.
Our program will have 2 teachers and 12 children (at the start of the school year the children will range in age from 18 months to 3 1/2 years old).
We operate 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) from 8:30 am--3:00 pm. The ideal candidate would be available to start work at 8:00 am and stay until 3:00 pm. Though the hours can be flexible for the right person.
We follow a school-year calendar and are open from September 1st to early June (although we are closed for July and August, there will be plenty of opportunities to work, if desired).
Our first day with the children is September 1, though the assistant teacher would need to be available the week before for some preparation and training. The program runs out of my home and backyard; we are located in Southwest Berkeley near Dwight Way and Sacramento St.
Pay will be around $20/hour, depending on experience.
If you are interested in this position, please send an email with information about yourself as well as your relevant experience. Thanks!
