Older cat with eye problem

Our Cat is 18 she seems to be recovering from some sort of (maybe bowel problems) She seems to be eating and pooping normally for her, now. But she has once again scratched her eye or something and she is not opening that eye all the way. Our Cat has not been to a vet for several years we have tried but were afraid she would either start seizing or have an outright heart attack so we gave up. So I am looking for any advice that we could get about the eye problem. I found some kind of antimicrobial eyedrops online for cats. Does anybody have any experience with those? Our Cat has scratched her eye or gotten something in it before we have taken her to the vet and gotten some like antibiotic / with steriods eye drops for her and have used those drops over the few times she has had the eye problem. But now I am afraid to use these expired eyedrops because I went to get the bottle but discovered that wow there was a whole lot of liquid in there and I do not remember that much liquid so I do not know what is up and if I am mistaken but anyway I know this is a long post any advise much appreciated thanks
