Robert Burke Warren brings four up-and-coming Hudson Valley songwriters to the intimate, acoustically-perfect Colony for a late summer treat, and a promising view of the future. Jayla Kai grew up near Woodstock, placing her in a community of musicians who she cites as key mentors. She listened to her mother’s music growing up, inspired by Suzanne Vega and Natalie Merchant. After studying violin and picking up guitar, Kai first tried songwriting at 10, writing her own words to a familiar Suzanne Vega song. Pursuing songwriting in earnest, Kai connected with Regina Spektor, Josh Ritter, and many more. Her favorites expanded to include Laura Marling and Joni Mitchell, followed by Andrew Bird, Sufjan Stevens, Noname, Sylvan Esso, Fiona Apple and Alabama Shakes. Kai released her debut EP, Epitome, in July of 2021. She is currently studying composition and songwriting at Bard College, playing shows, writing and recording new music, and getting ready for her next release. Ollie Milford is an 18-year-old artist and musician who grew up running through the woods slaying pretend monsters with fake swords and writing about fictional creatures of the Catskill forest. Ollie tells stories through their art and music inspired by imaginary worlds and live action role play – i.e., LARP – adventures. They draw inspiration from being a production staff member and gamewriter at the Kingston-based LARP camp The Wayfinder Experience. As a piano and vocal student at the Woodstock Rock Academy since 2018, Ollie has performed in the Showband and on tour. Recently, Ollie performed virtually for the New York Game Awards. Bev Sloane is an independent songwriter and performer from Upstate NY. As both lead singer and writer of the New England Emo outfit Beverage, she helmed the conception and execution of their first album, also titled Beverage. She also writes intimately of herself as her solo project “Sloane.” Calder Mansfield is a 22 year old musician, comedian, and writer from Phoenicia, NY
