Description

Take your creativity to a new level with the powerful advanced editing tools in Lightroom Classic. In this 3-hour course you will be introduced to following tools: Use brush, gradient and radial masks to make local adjustments and selectively apply your edits to only those portions of the photo that need workAdd those masks manually or use color and/or light ranges to precisely target a portion of your image.Use the Tone Curves to make minute changes to the luminance range or even the independent color channels in your image—in no time at all.Use split toned colors to change the look and feel of your highlights and shadowsColor grade the Hue, Luminance and Saturation of each of the color ranges in your image independently--easily and quickly—and precisely target the color changes you want to see in your image. Finally, learn how to use external software that may do things that Lightroom simply cannot. Set up other software as a plug-in right in Lightroom. “Round Trip” out of Lightroom to apply unique changes to your image in external software, then save those changes right back into your Lightroom catalog and Library. You need to have a basic working knowledge of Lightroom Classic, have a workflow and folder structure that you understand and use for organizing your photos. You need to understand and have a basic working knowledge of the Library and Develop modules, how to do basic editing chores in the Develop module, and how to import and export your photos. We’ll take it from there. You will need your laptop loaded with the latest version of Lightroom Classic, your laptop charger, and some photos on your hard drive or on a card that can be used for practice as we learn each of these techniques. Load a few photos into Lightroom so we can start right up. Extensive and detailed handouts will be provided by email in advance of the class for later reference—you do not have to print them or bring them to class, and you should be able to take notes as we move along—we’ll cover a lot—so have paper and pen available. Meet the Instructor: Jim Seith is a self-taught photographer who for over 25 years has taken his camera to all seven continents, including twice to Antarctica, once as a crew member on a six-person, 60-foot-long sailboat. He spent 17 days with a nomadic goat-herder family in far northwestern Mongolia, riding their horses across the Altai Mountains to tri-border area of China, Mongolia and Russia. He has been to Africa four times and visited six countries, where his wanderings included a two-person canoe trip down the wild Zambezi River around groups of hippopotamuses, and a rare event in the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania where he followed a group of female lions and cubs as they stalked and took down a lone male Wildebeest. He spent hours in the Ngorongoro Crater photographing up close a group of female hyenas and their cubs. His images have been published in travel magazine and been picked up for sale through Getty and Adobe. His techniques for setting up the camera to give you the best chance to “create” and capture unforgettable moments are simple and easy to learn. He has edited his photos using Lightroom for decades and he has an uncomplicated system for understanding and using this powerful tool for the organization, workflow, and fine-tuning of your photographs. Jim was a career Air Force fighter pilot who flew over 200 missions in Viet Nam and retired as the Director of the Western Hemisphere Division on the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon. He then spent over 21 years as the Senior Vice-President of the AARP Foundation and on his retirement from AARP continues that work part-time as the Senior Director for Jobs Programs in a small non-profit organization in Crystal City, Virginia. Jim has a degree in Marketing and Fine Arts from the University of Florida, and a Masters Degree in Systems Management from St Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas.
