Description

The Mabry-Hazen House museum is turning 30 years old, and we're throwing a swinging garden party to celebrate! While the historic house itself is well over 160 years old, the museum opened to the public in 1992. You are invited to join the friends, board members, and museum staff of Mabry-Hazen House in celebrating our three decades of service! Our dressy casual garden party takes place on the grounds of the historic house. Enjoy the sunset over Sharp's Ridge from the top of Mabry's Hill while sipping a delectable signature cocktail or local wine (virgin cocktails and infused water also available). Dance on the lawn while the Old City Buskers play swinging tunes from the gazebo. Take a self-guided tour of the historic house. Then join us under the spacious lighted tent for delicious hors d'oeuvres and to view the items offered in our silent auction! We are raising funds to support a restoration of the historic house interior, including new wallpaper, paint, and plaster repairs. Proceeds from the event and silent auction will go towards this restoration. View the Silent Auction at 32auctions.com/mabryhazen30. The auction will begin September 6, 2022 and conclude at the end of the evening on September 16, 2022.From Mabry's Hill to Market Square, Mabry-Hazen House weaves through the history of Knoxville and East Tennessee. Our small museum preserves a big part of the past, but we need help to extend our history well into the future. Built in 1858, three generations of the same family resided in the Italianate-style home overlooking downtown Knoxville, the Tennessee River, and Great Smoky Mountains. Furnished and decorated in the style of several eras, Mabry-Hazen gives a rare view into 130 years of Knoxville history. The museum showcases one of the largest original family collections in America with over 2,500 original artifacts on display. The museum also tells stories of the origins of Market Square, the bitter divisions of the Civil War, the infamous 1882 Gunfight on Gay Street, a mountain city in the New South, the scandalous 1934 breach of promise and seduction trial, and much more through the rich, colorful lives of the Mabry and Hazen families.
