I have a Mercury Thunderbolt 700 engine. It will start and idle…. But when put in forwards or reverse it loses power and shuts off. I am not sure if it’s a spark plug issue, carburetor issue, or needs a new lower unit rebuilt. I have called around almost everywhere and cannot find somebody that will work on a boat engine that is pre-1990. This mercury thunderbolt I believe is 1976 or 1978.
