Description
Kahlua is a 1 year old Italian Greyhound mix who came to our rescue with her friend/sister (?) Bailey. They were rescues from a shelter. Kahlua is a petite gal weighing all of 9 lbs. Here is the report from her foster home! Kahlua was a bit apprehensive when she first arrived in her new space- quickly claiming one of the dog beds and making it her home base until she felt more comfortable to explore more space. After 3 days or so, she warmed up to her new environment and her zest for life quickly became apparent. She loves her walks, smelling new things, and will be first in line for treats and head scratches. Kahlua has many endearing quirks, such as randomly getting the zoomies and grabbing toys to sleep on! After adjusting, she likes to follow us around to see what's happening, but also enjoys going back to her bed for alone time, although she'll make her voice heard when she feels uneasy or hears noises that startle her! We have a 50lb dog that spends her days at home with Kahlua. Kahlua gets along very well with our dog. They like to follow each other to see what's happening. Sometimes they even share beds on their own. Here is her daily routine: Kahlua wakes up around 7AM and starts her day with a 30 minute morning walk along with breakfast. She'll sleep most of the working day, but also gets a 30 minute lunch walk around 1PM if it's not too hot outside. From 1-5PM, Kahlua usually rests with some training sessions sprinkled in. After 5PM, she gets to stretch her legs again with another 30 minute walk providing it's not too hot. Finally, dinner is served around 7PM, with one more night walk around 9PM. Kahlua is a good mix of everything, though she leans towards the couch potato side for the majority of the day when we're not active. She spends most of her day sleeping with the occasional zoomie out of nowhere. Though when she wakes up, she has loads of energy and can't wait for playtime or a walk, but is also quick to calm down. Kahlua walks well on leash, but still tends to walk from side to side to smell different things. We've been training her to check up on us on our walks and she is doing very well with the training. Kahlua has had two incidents in the house but has not had any since. During her first night, she did not like being in the crate closed. We've been working towards making her crate a home, so she'll sleep in the crate on her own if the door is open, but could still use some crate-training. The ideal home for Kahlua would be a home where she can go on lots of walks, receive lots of head scratches, and be mentally stimulated! She's a very smart dog who will do well with training! Kahlua is an option for almost any home with some level of prior dog experience. She could join a cat or a dog in the home, or be your one and only. She's an option for children over the age of 6.
