Introducing Startland's Back to School Innovation Challenge: a team-based pitch competition that will introduce Kansas City (KC) Metro Area high school students to the design thinking process and entrepreneurial mentors. Students will have the opportunity to: Work in teams (of 5-10 students) to create solutionsPresent their idea to a panel of esteemed judgesTackle real-world problems affecting their communityThe winning team will win funding to continue pursuing their venture beyond the challenge and funds for their teacher’s classroom. Please use this form to reserve your spot as a sponsor for a team(s) at your school. Spots will fill up fast, so reserve ASAP! #B2SCHALLENGE Requirements: Must be a high school teacher, or be able to sponsor high school students.Must be able to sponsor a team or classroom of at least 5 students, and no more than 20 students per team.Must be able to monitor students for the duration of the event.Must have school approval to be able to utilize the school day for the event.Must be able to secure a substitute teacher for the day, if necessary.Teacher Expectations: Startland will be in charge of facilitating the event and providing mentors to each team to guide them through the process. The following is what we we will need teachers to complete: Reserve your spot as a sponsor for your team(s) through this Eventbrite page.Register your team(s) for the event (Information on how to do this will be sent closer to event date).Work with Startland Education to approve this field trip with your school's administration, and in securing a substitute teacher for the day (if necessary).On event day, ensure all students have completed the entry & exit forms, including the video/photo release forms (will be provided at the event).Agenda: 8:30 AM: Welcome & Opening Remarks 8:45 AM: Presentation of Challenge 9:15 AM: Build your concept (Teamwork time) 10:30 AM: Learn the Pitch Process 11:00 AM: Lunch/Prepare your idea and pitch (Teamwork time) 12:15 PM: Pitch time! 1:30 PM: Winners announced Tips for recruiting students: This is an amazing opportunity for students to take part in a real-world learning experience while gaining valuable skills. Along with the event, students will have the opportunity to meet a variety of professionals and entrepreneurs who are looking to empower youth. Finally, each team will have the opportunity to continue their venture, with the opportunity for additional funding for the winning team.
