Summary of Duties: Under the general supervision of the office of the Consul General, the Housekeeping Attendant (HA) ensures that all the Consul General’s Official Residence public areas, lavatories, hallways, stairs, entrances, kitchens and working areas are maintained in a clean and orderly condition including; care of fine art, antiques, furniture, fine surfaces, polishing silver, brass, china washing and cleaning floors, table tops and windows, as well as vacuuming/dusting, removing waste and keeping inventory; labeling and checking condition of items in storage. The Housekeeping Attendant will also perform regular hospitality and event duties at the office of the Consulate General of Canada and the Consul General’s Official Residence. Area of Selection: • currently living and eligible to work in the United States • current employees of a Canadian Mission located in the United States; • spouses and dependents of Canada-based staff of the Canadian Missions in New York; Please note that the Consulate General of Canada in New York does not sponsor work authorizations directly or indirectly. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience. Education: Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education. • High School or GED (or foreign country equivalent) Language: • Fluency in English (oral and written). Experience: Minimum three (3) years recent work experience in a private residence or estate in the following areas; 1. All aspects of general housekeeping, cleaning of residence and up keep of residence; 2. Serving and/or coordinating service staff (e.g. captain) in a fine dining environment; 3. Laundry and ironing clothing and home linens; care for fine garments, etc.; 4. Organization of closets and pantries; and 5. Keeping inventory; labeling and checking condition of items in storage *Recent defined in the last 7 years. RATED REQUIREMENTS The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment. Knowledge: 1. Knowledge of safety regulations regarding the use of household chemical substances, protective gear, safety signs, and ventilation; 2. Knowledge of fine dining service etiquette; 3. Knowledge of cleaning and maintenance of fine art, antiques, furniture, fine surfaces, polishing silver, brass, china, etc.; and 4. Knowledge (basic) in computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite, e.g., Word, Excel and Outlook. Competencies: 1. Adaptability/flexibility; 2. Integrity; 3. Initiative; 4. Discretion; and 5. Dependability Abilities: 1. Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing; 2. Provide excellent client service and strong work ethic; 3. Manage multiple competing demands, organize time, and work effectively to meet deadlines with minimum supervision; and 4. Assist with the organization and implementation of multiple events, while meeting tight timelines. Operational Requirements: • Normal hours of work for this position are in accordance with the Locally Engaged Staff (LES) regulations of 40 hours per week. Occasional overtime, including evenings, early mornings, and weekends, may be required with advance notice. Conditions of Employment: Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position. - Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period. - Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period. - Other conditions of employment: Must have Independent work authorization in the United States and status in accordance with United States protocol directives for foreign missions. In this respect, applicants must confirm independent work authorization in the United States (e.g. US Citizen, U.S Legal Permanent Resident (LPR), or specific visa categories (e.g. dependents of Diplomatic and Official Visas holders)) as required by the Department of State for employment in a foreign mission.
