A New Social Catechism for the 21st Century?A Conversation with Cardinal TurksonWednesday, October 19, 2022Mass 9:00-10:00am | Lecture 10:30-11:45am | Panel 1:00-3:00pm To be livestreamed: shsst.edu/dehon-lecture Lecturer: Cardinal Peter Turkson His Eminence Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson is Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, Prefect emeritus of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, and Archbishop emeritus of Cape Coast (Ghana). An international leader in justice and peace, he has numerous advanced degrees and awards. He held many roles in his home country of Ghana as well as throughout West Africa, before being called to Rome. In 2009, he was nominated President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, and confirmed in that position by Pope Francis in 2013. He participated in the conclave of April 2005, which elected Pope Benedict XVI and in the conclave of March 2013, which elected Pope Francis. In 2016 Card. Turkson was appointed Prefect of the new Department for the Service of the Integral Human Development, instituted by the Holy Father Francis with his Apostolic Letter in form of "Motu Proprio". In 2018, the Pope Francis appointed Cardinal Turkson as Member of the Pre-Synodal Council of the Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for the Pan-Amazon Region. Since January 1st, 2022 he is Prefect Emeritus of the Department for the Service of the Integral Human Development. On 4 April 2022 Pope Francis appointed him as Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences.
