In primary settings, the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) is in a prime position to treat and prescribe medications to patients who have prevalent chronic conditions such kidney disease, diabetes mellitus, and obesity. APRN’s are also often faced with knowing how to effectively treat patients with common skin conditions and disorders, as dermatological conditions are one of the leading causes for consultation at a primary care level. This professional development activity, led by a team of experts in their field, will provide a comprehensive review on the updates of pharmacological treatment modalities for patients with renal disease and failure, diabetes mellitus, patients who are overweight or have obesity, and those who experience common skin disorders. Fee ……………………………………………………………………………………$ 100 Speakers: Angelique B. Allemand, DNP, RN, ACNP-BC, FNP-C, CNS- is a professor at Nicholls State University. She has been a nurse practitioner since 2008 and has been working in nephrology since 2010. Paige Robichaux, MSN, FNP- is a nurse practitioner in the Endocrinology Clinic at Chabert Medical Center with 25 years’ experience in diabetes care. Catherine Hudson, MD, MPH -is board certified in Internal Medicine (ABIM) since 2018 and Obesity Medicine (ABOM) since 2019. She is the Medical Director of Bariatric Medicine at UMCNO where she has created the first Obesity Medicine Clinic. Dr. Hudson holds a special interest in nutrition and weight loss through Motivational Interviewing and Health Coaching. Denton “Luke” Paige, PA- is a 2006 Nicholls BSN Nursing graduate and a 2009 graduate of Our Lady of the Lake- Physician Assistant Program. He has been practicing in the specialty of dermatology for 13 years providing care for patients with various skin conditions and diseases. Luke is a member of the Society for Dermatologic Physicians. Activity Learning Outcomes: ● Discuss medications routinely utilized in the treatment of patients with chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease. ● Identify oral and injectable medications to treat type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus. ● Identify best practice of diabetes based on current ADA guidelines ● Discuss FDA-approved weight-loss medications used to treat obesity and persons who are overweight. ● Compare disorders and diseases of the skin with various treatment options. The target audience is registered nurse practitioners.
