Description
Addressing Mental Health Concerns and Promoting Behavioral Wellness Among Students Mental health is a vital component of overall health for school-aged children and adolescents, affecting how they think, feel, and act. According to the CDC, mental health disorders most commonly diagnosed in children are ADHD, anxiety problems, behavior problems, and depression. School nurses require ongoing guidance and professional development in caring for children with these varied disorders, particularly following the identified negative impacts on mental health that are associated with adverse childhood events (ACES), such as the pandemic and natural disasters. Providing Safe Care at School for Students with Diabetes As one of the most common chronic childhood diseases, diabetes remains a growing public health concern owing to the rise in prevalence of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes among young people. School nurses are entrusted by parents and school staff to keep students safe in school and to foster a supportive and least restrictive environment. To do this, school nurses must stay abreast of cutting-edge diabetes knowledge and implementation of established protocols and practices to implement the student’s customized diabetes management plan.
