With nearly 15,000 square feet of exhibit, meeting, and office space, the museum is home to over 2000 rare and valuable information technology devices, artifacts and exhibits (for example, antique telegraph sets, telephones, radios, phonographs, televisions, and much more). The museum team is currently refurbishing an existing building in an historically underutilized business district (HUB Zone) in Madison County and is targeting a grand opening in the summer of 2022. The vision for MIE is to complement other local museums in the region without overlap. Stimulating critical thinking, MIE will highlight the great minds and inventors who enabled these advances, as well as the savvy business entrepreneurs who brought the technology into the marketplace. For younger explorers, MIE offers hands-on experiments to illustrate the key aspect of each technology advancement. For all museum visitors, MIE provides a multitude of functional items steeped in nostalgia and demonstrating the performance of each technology domain. The museum will display several examples of devices from each era along with video, audio and graphical displays to help illuminate each technology achievement. It is our guiding principle to be historically accurate, provide explanations suitable for the general public, and to safely guide viewers through an informative and enjoyable electrical technology tour. Since information technology is our core theme, we desire to provide an interesting and pleasurable transfer of knowledge to each visitor of the museum, including some experiences they can then access remotely via the Internet after their visit.
