Job Responsibilities We are seeking a Lead Driller to lead geotechnical drilling efforts. The Driller will be responsible for moving, set up and operate drilling rigs and related equipment to drill holes for Standard Penetration Test (SPT) borings, auger boring, rock coring, pavement coring and other geotechnical testing. • Communicate job site conditions with engineering staff. • Assure that all drilling functions, including quality control, quality assurance and verification are performed in accordance with the project specifications. • Perform shop/yard duties under the direction of the field coordinator. • Retrieve/recover soil and rock samples from drilling operations to be analyzed. • Operate equipment such as pumps for air, water and mud, and equipment and tools used to correct problems in drilled holes caused by mechanical breakdowns or by harmful natural conditions. • Perform soil borings, soil sampling, rock coring, pavement coring, and visual soil classification and documentation • Hauling supplies to and from the drill site • Manual material handling • Mixing drilling fluids • Logging boreholes • Perform other duties as assigned, such as staking boring locations, site reconnaissance, and completing hand auger borings or test pit excavations Job Requirements • Experience in the auger, mud rotary and NQ/HQ rock coring, operating various types of rotary drill rigs for split spoon soil sampling and installation of temporary monitoring wells. • Must be familiar with highway construction specifications and have previous field experience. • High School Diploma or GED • Must be able to work flexible hours and travel out of town when necessary • Successful completion of a physical, pre-employment drug screen and background check • The ability to lift 50-70 lbs on a regular basis and to work 8+ hours per day • Position requires outdoor work. Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions • Must complete all work in a safe manner • Experience with heavy equipment or construction equipment operation preferred • Drilling experience required. • Valid driver’s license required. • Commercial driver’s license required. Compensation is based on experience and capabilities. This is an hourly position that pays 1.5x for overtime.
