Description
Traditional herbal medicine preparations go by many names - tincture, decoction, oxymel, infusion, glycerite, but what do they all mean? And why & when is each one worked with? Join us to learn about harvesting herbs you can grow or find in the wild to make effective, safe, and powerfully healing medicinal preparations. We will discuss how to make and work with the following preparations: tinctures, teas, oils, vinegars, oxymels, glycerites and nourishing herbal infusions. We will craft a few medicines incorporating fresh and dried plants from the garden, a gorgeous living library of 300+ medicinal plant species from around the world. We will also explore and sample some herbal medicines from our apothecary. We will discuss how to incorporate these herbal remedies into your daily lifestyle as tonics, supplements, and medicine for mind, body, and spirit. Bring paper and writing utensils to take notes, as well as pruners if you have them and a harvest basket or bag... there is an abundance of mints to share! Some herbs we will learn about harvesting & making medicine with include: Achillea millefolium, yarrow Althaea officinalis, marshmallow Hypericum punctatum, solstice wort / St. John's wort Origanum vulgare, oregano Passiflora incarnata, passionflower Pycnanthemum muticum, mountian mint Salvia rosmarinus, rosemary Solidago species, goldenrod Trifolium pratense, red clover and likely many more! Five reduced-price scholarship tickets are available for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color), until maximum attendance is reached. Email [email protected] to claim one! **Note: Dress in layers for the weather/insects and bring a refillable water bottle. Potted seedlings, divisions, and seeds are available for donation at all our public events, as well as printed or recorded publications from Jim and Peggy Duke. We are also accepting donations of Any size glass jar. Thank you & we look forward to seeing you in the garden!
