Malden FD Receives Custom-Built Engine And Ladder Truck

MALDEN, MA — The Malden Fire Department recently received a custom-built engine and aerial ladder. Mayor Gary Christenson, Fire Commissioner Emery Haskell and Chief William Sullivan took delivery of the first new piece of firefighting apparatus, part of a $1.5 million investment to modernize the Malden Fire Department. The 2020 pumper, which will be assigned to Engine 2 at the Central Fire Station, was built by the E-One Fire Apparatus Company. This "Typhoon" model pumper can distribute 1,500 gallons of water per minute. It carries 780 gallons of water in an on-board tank, as well as over 2,000 feet of fire attack and water supply hose-lines and other firefighting and rescue equipment. It was built by E-One for the Malden Fire Department, based on specifications developed by a team of Malden Fire Department personnel. This new pumper will replace a pumper that has served the city for 22 years. The training of fire department personnel on the capabilities and the operation of the new pumper will begin immediately, and the new pumper is expected to go into full service within a couple of weeks. "I'm extremely pleased to continue our commitment to the hardworking men and women of the Malden Fire Department with this investment," Christenson said in a statement. "I want to thank our Finance Team, led by Controller Chuck Ranaghan and Director Ron Hogan, who continue to work tirelessly to put us in the position to make these investments. I also want to thank the City Council for their support of this request." The delivery of the new 2020 aerial ladder truck, also built by E-One, is expected to occur in mid-January.
