The Botanist is the first and only Islay Dry Gin. It is conceived, distilled and hand-crafted at the Bruichladdich distillery on the remote isle of Islay, off the west coast of Scotland. World-renowned whisky distiller Adam Hannett distills The Botanist with a unique combination of 22 wild, never cultivated, Islay botanicals that have been hand-picked on the island by the distillery’s full-time forager James Donaldson. This unique combination of botanicals lends the gin a variety of flavor profiles that make it beautiful on its own and versatile enough to work in any cocktail. The Botanist Islay Dry Gin is made at one of the only distilleries in the world to be B Corp certified. A B Corp company is one that puts people and purpose in line with profit. The “B” stands for “benefit” and this certification is a global recognition of the highest standard of social responsibility So, what is an Islay Dry Gin? Simply put, an Islay Dry Gin is a London Dry Gin made on Islay. A London Dry Gin is defined as a distilled gin where all botanical flavorings must be imparted through the distillation process. No flavoring elements can be added after distillation. In the distillation of The Botanist, the 22 unique Islay botanicals augment 9 berries, barks and seeds that can be traditionally found in a dry gin. These 9 botanicals are placed directly into the still with the distillate, while our 22 wild botanicals are vapor distilled in our custom botanical basket. We distill slowly and at a very low pressure: This method protects the botanicals ensuring they are in the best condition to impart their flavors. The slow speed creates a superior distillate with smooth and delicate character, as well as excellent viscosity and mouthfeel, making it the perfect choice to enjoy in any cocktail.
