The Patient Care Technician program at Always Health Institute is designed to teach students the basic skills necessary for employment as a patient care technician. A qualified patient care technician is capable of performing a wide range of duties, with a variety of technical details. The students will learn how to perform EKG, how to perform phlebotomy, and patient care skills under the supervision of registered nurses.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive a certificate of completion and will be eligible for National Certification Exams through National Health Association to be a Certified Patient Care Technician / Assistant, Certified EKG Technician, and Certified Phlebotomy Technician.
Responsibilities & Duties
Keep patient rooms tidy and sanitized
Assist patients with everyday needs (personal hygiene, using the restroom, grooming etc.)
Monitor vital signs (temperature, pulse etc.) or EKG signals and patient condition
Take fluid samples or other specimens for testing
Assist nursing staff in administering basic treatments
Perform basic nursing procedures (e.g. changing bandages)
Ensure rooms have adequate patient care supplies
Assist patients with particular issues or needs
Provide appropriate emotional support
