Description

Hello... So y'know I spent my early 20s in the "vegan chilli" circuit before graduating to doing records on (or touring as part of the band for bands on) Matador, Merge, Dangerbird, Secretly Canadian, etc... a lot of backing singer/songwriters and the ilk. I'm primarily a guitarist. Moved (back) to Austin 8 months or so back... and am a wee bit removed from "the action" here. But... I have had this hankering lately to do something kind of gnarly. Seeing the City of Caterpillar reunion LP announcement today really helped to make me post this. A band I was in played a shit ton of shows with 'em back in the 00s and yeah... So I'm looking to do something that is heavy and weird and am fairly open to what that means... the recent bit of heavier shoegaze has been really exciting me (I actually played a lot of very 'gaze-d out stuff a bit back and really know the secret sauce to some of 'em sounds) but I'm not bound up by that... also could be into totally returning to my roots and just ripping off some Unwound-ish things... But yeah... if you are working on something in this zone and need guitar lets talk OR if you play and wanna help put something together in this zone let's talk. This is pretty open ended because I don't want to box in a vision without the pieces -- else I would just record a bunch on my own. I'd like it to be the sum of the parts. Abbreviated comical timeline: Grew up on classic Dischord (and related but we can use 'dischord' as shorthand) Toured in that world Listened to too much shoegaze Discovered CAN Went all in on Krautrock Bought a lot of delay pedals Got obsessed with Neil Young Played as the "weird guitar dude" for singer/songwriters and more trad indie rock Revisited Unwound thanks to Numero reissues (although I never sold my Unwound LPs) Heard some of the heavier shoegaze adjacent stuff (IE: Cloakroom) Started thinking about doing something more in that vein City of Caterpillar announced reunion LP Posted this I know this post is a bit scattershot -- but y'know if any of this feels like it's calling yr name lets talk.
