Drummer needed for gigging classic rock band

Meets

Kansas City MO

Description

Working classic rock cover band is looking for a new permanent drummer.  We did this a couple months ago so some of you may have seen this ad then. :)  We've added a few more details this time to help us find just the right player. Classic rock covers with some other fun stuff thrown in the mix too. We play mostly bars, with a couple outdoor events in the summer and private parties here and there. We currently have 16 dates booked through the end of this year. We like to gig. :) Mostly in the general KC area, but sometimes we drive as far as Topeka, Warrensburg, or Maryville. You’re welcome to hitch a ride with one of us if you want (and it’s more fun that way!). We need a permanent drummer to give us a solid foundation. If you like to groove you’ll really like our bass player because he’ll lock right in with you. And our soundman will make sure the drums sound good and punchy out front (even at low volume). Backup vocals are a plus but not necessary – solid drums are necessary. :) We’re all in our fifties and have similar musical influences and tastes. Your age is not important - the most important thing is that you can play solidly and with some maturity (and you don’t mind hanging out with a bunch of guys in their fifties). Some of the venues are pretty small and require a low volume so sometimes you’ll have to take it easy. Not all the time, but sometimes. You don’t need any gear other than reliable drums. We’ve got PA, monitors (in-ear if you want them), and lights covered. We need you to get up to speed quickly (gigs booked!). We’ll provide you with recordings of both the original artists (so you can learn the parts) and our live recordings (so you can learn the endings). And charts too if you want them. We like to keep things kind of tight and fairly close to the original artists' recording - we deviate from the original recording on occasion, but it's planned and rehearsed; not improvised.   To audition, we’d like you to learn these songs as well as you can. These songs will give you an idea of the kind of material we do, and how well you learn them will give us an idea of how well you'll learn the rest of our set list :). Already Gone - The Eagles Boys Are Back In Town – Thin Lizzy I Want You To Want Me – Cheap Trick Just What I Needed – The Cars My Sharona - The Knack No Sugar Tonight – The Guess Who Here are some important things we're looking for up front: --We do this for fun! We do get paid for gigs but we don't charge a lot of money and we don't make our livings this way. Some gigs pay more than others and we just split whatever the band makes.  If you're looking for a band as a source of income this probably isn't for you. --You'll have to be comfortable playing at a low volume. Some of the places we play are small (but still fun!).  If the drums get loud then the soundman has to turn up the vocals and the instruments to match and then everything is loud and we don't get hired back to that place (and we always want to get hired back!)  We've tried electronic drums and don't want to do that. They're cool - they're just not for us. --We'll probably ask you to use a small acoustic drum kit (4 piece?) to save stage space.  Some of the places have very small stages (or sometimes we're just stuck in a corner on the floor) so the smaller footprint the drums require the better. --Sometimes we drive as far north as Maryville, MO for gigs. Google maps says that is 96.1 miles from downtown KCMO.  Or we may play about that far east or south or west of KC.  You have to be willing to make a long drive sometimes. --We're a *cover* band.  We expect the drummer to play the songs (pretty much) at the original tempos, with the original grooves, and with (more or less) the original fills (and not a bunch of extra fills :) ) If you’re interested please contact me with a little info about your experience, and send links if you have them (video would be great!). If you don't tell me anything about yourself I probably won't get back to you. If it looks like a good fit we’ll set up a time to have a conversation and hopefully schedule an audition.
