HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — Now, here's a dog house that furry friends can really sink their teeth into. Adoptable dogs at Hillsborough County's Pet Resource Center recently enjoyed a tasty sampling of the season as they took turns sniffing, licking and eventually devouring a completely edible gingerbread-style house. Shelter staffers built the ice-cooler-sized structure using dog biscuits, honey, peanut butter and other dog-friendly treats. A miniature mailbox, presents and chimney and a snowman made of Rice Krispy treats were especially enticing. The resource center staff come up with inventive ways to enrich the lives of the dogs who are housed at the shelter and awaiting permanent homes. This can be especially difficult during the coronavirus pandemic when visitors and volunteers at the Pet Resource Center are limited. The resource center at 440 N. Falkenburg Road, Tampa, is always in need of toys to entertain the dogs and cats in its care. But the best gift is a permanent, loving home. The Pet Resource Center has dozens of pets available for adoption. Here are a few: Aiden Odin Royal Fritz Frosty Munchkin Azrael For more information on adopting and donating, visit the center's website.
