Description
Hi, I'm an experienced English as a Second Language teacher and tutor. I'd be happy to help you to improve your level of English language proficiency including helping to develop your fluency. I've helped many students speak English perfectly. There are two aspects involved: pronunciation and accent. Pronunciation looks at the details of making sure the letters of each word are clearly articulated. Accent focuses on 1. Syllable stress; 2. Word Stress; 3. Intonation; 4. Linking Words for Smooth Flow. For example, if we look at the sentence "He insists that the doctor gave it to him," native American English speakers will generally say it as follows: /he inSISTS that the DOCtor GEI vɪ(t) to him/. Syllable Stress Most 2-syllable verbs are stressed on the second syllable; "insists" is stressed on the second syllable /inSISTS/ Most 2-syllable nouns are stressed on the first syllable; "doctor" is stressed on the first syllable /DOCtor/ Word Stress Most verbs and nouns are usually stressed more than adjectives and adverbs, and most other words (pronouns, prepositions, conjunctions, articles) are stressed less, so "insists," "doctor," and "gave" are stressed more than "he," "that," "the," "it," "to," and "him." Intonation Falling intonation at the end of affirmative sentences, here falling at the word "him." Linking The last consonant sound of the word "gave" /v/ links to the first vowel sound of the word "it," creating the two sounds GEI vɪt. We can practice these aspects of English in any contexts that you would like, such as business presentations, job interviews, and social, educational, and travel situations. Also we can incorporate the following topics: - Conversation - Focused review of grammar - Academic editing - Business communications and emails - Writing practice - Use of phrasal verbs and idioms - Discussion of current events - Vocabulary - Reading - Listening comprehension I would look forward to assisting you to meet your English language goals. $10/hour Private Lessons Summer Special
