Description

Hey soulful players, I’m looking to start a new group. the Covid burst apart the funk / soul group I began, No Lovely Thing, nolovelything.bandcamp.com and I’m itching to play that type of music again. I’m not looking to recreate that group in any tangible way, but I’m missing the vibe of a tight pocket hanging underneath killer singers and solid soloists. And while I could hit up some of those players to join me, at the moment, it’s just me on the guitar. I’m putting the feelers out there for all instruments and vocalists. Thinking it might be nice to be a quartet or quintet that rehearses once a week and performs 2-4 times a month, primarily around the bay. Some influences: Curtis Mayfield, Etta James, Stevie Wonder, pretty much anything by Dap Tone, The Delvon Lamarr Organ trio, The Meters, nina simone, Aretha, The reverend Al Green, Donnie Hathaway, Alabama shakes, The Blues Kitchen Radio podcast, on and on... And of course, I can get into classic funk and some blues too - if it’s funky - anything with hips, that’s not overly produced speaks to me. If this speaks to you too, hit me up with some links and a short description of what you’re looking for. Let’s get down John
