Hooray Judge Indu Thomas, who, on Friday, overturned State Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler’s half-baked rule that prohibited insurers from factoring policy holder’s good credit scores into their insurance premiums, resulting in significantly higher home and auto insurance premiums for Washington residents with good credit. The judge, in her ruling invalidating Kreidler’s rule, noted that Kreidler “exceeded his authority.” If all goes well, we can expect to see insurance premium reductions soon. As a sidebar, seventy-eight year old Kreidler, author of the hair-brained insurance premium rule, has held his commissioner position for over twenty years and it is widely agreed that it is time for him to step down after making bullying, racist and sexist remarks and for abusive and insensitive treatment of his staff. Despite calls for his resignation from Gov. Jay Inslee and from leaders in both the state House and Senate, Kreidler refuses to step down. It appears that state government has lost confidence in Mike Kreidler, but like herpes, he won’t go away. Keep this in mind should he attempt reelection two years from now.
