Description

The Student Counseling Center and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Present: Move for Mental Wellness 5K followed by a Mind, Body, and Spirit Wellness Fair! The purpose of this event is to: -come together as a community to raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of suicide in college students, lifelong learner communities, and communities of color -honor those individuals who have died by suicide -provide primary prevention wellness strategies to safeguard mental health and prevent suicide -provide intergenerational conversations about health-related topics, including cancers, diabetes, hypertension, healthy aging, and community-based health -provide wellness resources -promote collective conversation and advocacy around mental health to destigmatize the shame and guilt associated with suicide, mental health, and co-morbid medical conditions. With this event, we aspire to introduce a community approach to wellness, provide guidance on managing self-care, and promote a commitment to supporting those who may be dealing with grief, depression, loss, trauma, and thoughts of suicide. The first 200 registrants will receive a T-shirt and top runners will receive medals! Participants will receive #supportoverstigma headbands to represent their HU Class and show HU Pride. A prize will be awarded to the HU Class that is represented most! In partnership with Sentara Healthcare Network, Hampton University's OSHER Lifelong Learning Institute, and Project Nana.
