Description
This is a short 2-part study to determine the role that emotions and content of substance use-related dreams have on recovery from substance abuse:
•The purpose of the study is to determine the effects of substance abuse-related dreams on individuals in treatment for chemical dependency. By doing this study, we hope to learn the following: To review and determine the frequency, content, and effects of substance abuse-related dreams in individuals currently recovering from chemical dependency; To study and establish any common themes within or between subjects who experience substance abuse; To determine if the more frequent and emotionally challenging the content of the substance abuse related dreams will have an effect on a person’s rate of relapse. It will also establish a timeline of the frequency of drug-related dreams in relation to the length of sobriety.
•Potential benefits associated with the study include improvement in the rehabilitation process through identifying emotional and physiological factors that affect people in recovery. This includes their sleep process as well as emotional cues that occur during periods of rest. This will allow the field to continue to develop treatments that will allow people to acknowledge and reduce factors related to relapse.
