WESTPORT, CT — Westport's emergency medical technicians and paramedics have begun receiving the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine from Moderna, a sign of hope for the town's first responders. In addition, Westport police and fire personnel also have begun to receive the vaccine, all of which were administered at the Westport-Weston Health District, according to officials. "We encourage everyone to get vaccinated as soon as it is available to you," said Westport Emergency Medical Service Deputy Director Marc Hartog. "In the meantime, we'll continue to wear masks, wash our hands frequently, and practice socialdistancing, and ask all of you to do the same." Since the coronavirus pandemic began in March, only one Westport EMS member has been diagnosed with the virus, which Hartog said is a "monumental feat" considering the service has close to 75 members.
