Description

"Mokita" is a word from the Kivila language, spoken in Papua New Guinea, which loosely translates to: the truth we all know but agree not to talk about. Concepts in the English language related to the notion of mokita include things like "the “elephant in the room," euphemisms, or “polite fiction”, in which everyone is aware of the truth but pretends to believe some alternative version to avoid shame, embarrassment, or conflict. We believe that the mokita is an excellent starting point for building true community, allyship, and even kinship, and we think there is no better place to do this than around a table, sharing delicious food with each other. Here's what to expect: You will be welcomed just as you are, join a table of others, and be guided through intentional discussion as you partake in four delicious courses. We hope by the end of the evening you will be well-nourished, inspired and empowered, and perhaps leave with more questions than you came with that energize you in your change-making journey.
