Description

Hi, Please help me with this: • Size/select/buy a used cast iron boiler o Buy a condenser if appropriate o Other accessories/materials  Currently gravity fed, need to install a pump • Haul it in and put in place o Move old boiler out of the way • Install accessories and connect system (maybe I can help with this part) • Other small projects while I’m at it o Fix venting for water heater (very simple) o Install gas line for oven (not complicated) The long version: My house (North Braddock 15104) has a very old boiler that is gravity fed. I would like to replace it with a used boiler and get the best efficiency I can at an affordable price. I’m a pretty handy guy but I cannot do this myself. I definitely need help to purchase a boiler and haul it in. I believe that I can do some of the setup, but I will need some help. I’m flexible and willing to pay what it takes, but money is tight and I can try to do as much of the work myself as possible to save some money… if that works for you. I would like a reference or two establishing that you know what you’re doing. I am good with working with people. I don’t like to pay for labor upfront but I’m absolutely willing to pay the day you work, and pay for materials upfront. If you can sell me an installed system, that will be wonderful too. I have done some reading about boilers but I’m a newbie. Here is what I think I need. I will listen to what you say and please tell me if I’m off base. I think that because I’m buying used, I want cast iron. My understanding is that lighter materials wear out faster. I want to put a condenser on it (is that possible) to increase efficiency. I need to add a pump so that I no longer rely on gravity to feed the system. If I have to leave the old unit in my basement forever, I’ll do that rather than spend a lot to get rid of it. I know boilers are heavy and hard to bring downstairs. I imagine we’ll need to backup a pickup truck into my yard to get to the basement door. Clearances are a little tight but they got the current boiler in there somehow, so we’ll get this one in. While I’m at it, I also need to fix the venting on my water heater (this is very simple), and also run a new gas line so I can install a gas oven (should not be complicated, easy access to the pipes and not far to run the new line). Thanks. Please get ahold of me.
