(See the full agenda here) You may register to attend in-person or virtually! 2018 IBC Update Description: The International Building Code (IBC) continues to establish minimum regulations for building systems using prescriptive and performance-related provisions. It is founded on principles that make use of new materials and new building designs. This course will identify important changes in the IBC from 2015 to 2018 edition. Participants will be presented with those changes that will most impact their use of the code when they adopt the 2018 IBC. The learner will receive an overview of the most important code changes. Course Objectives: Identify the most significant differences between the 2015 IBC and the 2018 IBC.Explain the differences between the current and previous edition.Identify changes in the organization and code requirements.Identify the applicability of design, plan review and inspection requirements.2018 IBC Means of Egress Description: The goal of this course is to provide an overview of the fundamental means of egress requirements in the 2018 International Building Code (IBC). The reader will be presented with specific problems related to means of egress and will be asked to solve each problem using a set of plans for a four-story college classroom office/building. Course Objectives: Upon completion of the seminar, participants will be better able to: List and describe each of the three parts of a means of egress.Identify the eight fundamental means of egress design issues.Calculate the occupant load and determine the required means of egress capacity.Determine the required number of exit access doorways and exits.Determine the requirements for arrangement of the means of egress elements, including: the location of exit access doorways and exits, the exit access travel distance, the common path of egress travel, any egress through adjoining spaces.Determine the requirements for the design, including fire-resistance-related construction, of egress elements, including corridors; stairways; exit passageways; areas of refuge and horizontal exits.Determine the requirements for door hardware, including panic hardware and door latching devices.Determine the requirements for locations and amounts of means of egress lighting and signage.Evaluate the adequacy of a horizontal exit as part of a means of egress plan.Evaluate the means of egress in assembly spaces.Evaluate the adequacy of accessible means of egress.SPEAKER INFO Jay Woodward is a Senior Staff Architect with ICC’s Business and Product Development department and works out of the Lenexa, Kansas Distribution Center. His primary responsibility is the development of new ICC publications and instructing seminars. Among the publications he has authored or co-authored are the Significant Changes books on the IBC, IMC and A117.1 standard, and the recent ICC book Firestopping, Joint Systems and Dampers.
