Job Overview Under the day-to-day supervision of the Executive Director and Program Director, the Community Organizer will focus on the mission of the Novi Community Coalition working together to improve the quality of life for all who live or work in Novi by promoting a healthy community for our youth through education, prevention, support, and recovery. The Community Organizer will help inform and engage the community and stake holders around substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders, including performing the following duties: Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to: • Work toward advancing the mission of the NCC while staying informed on best practices • Represent the organization in the broader community and events to maintain the organization’s visibility and solidarity • Build engaged relationships with our 12 sectors • Recruit, organize, train and develop community members, volunteers, board members and sector representatives to take effective collective action within the coalition • Conduct and participate in assessments, coalition meetings, record keeping and reporting • Coordinate and oversee fundraising efforts, including grant writing • Undertake other responsibilities as assigned by the coalition Desired Skills and Abilities: • Knowledge of and connections within the Novi community. • Strong community values and passionate belief in the mission of the NCC. • Self-starter, with proven ability to convert goals into strategies and an action plan. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • An understanding of NCC’s focus areas and ability to relate respectfully and empathetically with diverse cultures • Excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills. • Self-motivated and flexible. • Ability to work independently and also be part of a team. • Computer proficient, especially Microsoft Office applications • Knowledge of social media, networking and ability to work well with the media • Experience in training and community organizing. • Experience in fundraising and grant writing Hours and compensation: Part time, contract position – Flexible hours up to 30 hours per week (average) with some evenings and weekends required for meetings and events.
