DETROIT — A second person has died in a Detroit mass shooting stemming over a parking dispute between two neighbors, Detroit Police Chief James White said during a Monday afternoon news conference. White said the shooter fired numerous shots from a "high-powered rifle" into a home on Coyle Street near Plymouth Road around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, killing two and injuring six others, after complaining about his driveway being blocked by a car. Multiple victims were seriously hurt in the shooting and still receiving treatment at a nearby hospital, White said. Victims inside the home were celebrating a birthday party when the shooter fired the shots from the first and second floors of his own home, which is directly across the street, White said. Officers immediately responded to the scene and arrested the shooter inside his home without incident, White said. Officers also found 11 guns that were "strategically placed" throughout his home, "so that as he moved around the home he would have access to these weapons," White said. Police did not identify the shooter, but said he was in his 30s with a military background. "I understand Detroit families are in pain," White said. "Neighbors near the gunfire areshaken, and lives have been forever changed. Our officers are doing a phenomenal job,we can't do this alone." The mass shooting was just part of a deadly weekend in Detroit that saw 24 non-fatal shootings and seven homicides, police said.
