Join us on August 27th at 1pm to learn about the layers of significant history in one of Milwaukee's most storied landscapes. Learn about the site's indigenous origins, settlement as Milwaukee's first trading post, development as a private park, and eventual acquisition in the late 1890s as one of Milwaukee's earliest public parks. We will explore the intact pastoral design by Warren H. Manning, a nationally renowned colleague of Frederick Law Olmsted, who also designed the now-demised sunken garden.
This fantastic tour will be guided by landscape historian and award-winning journalist Virginia Small. Small has written extensively about parks and public spaces, including the Mitchell Park Domes, and about Clarke Square's history for the Encyclopedia of Milwaukee.
Park in the main parking lot near the Domes. Gather on the plaza near the Domes Annex (just south of the Domes entrance)
