In this movie series sponsored by the Ohio Poetry Association and in partnership with Columbus Metropolitan Library, participants will examine the ways filmmakers construct meaning through the artistry of cinema by viewing several great films that focus on important poets and the art of writing poetry. For each film viewed during a session, attendees will receive study guides that will include pre- and post-viewing discussion topics as well as creative writing prompts. Each session will also include time for discussion and writing. The schedule and movie descriptions are below and are also available on the Ohio Poetry Association website. All movies will be shown in the Auditorium at the Main Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library. Parking is available in the library’s parking garage accessible from Library Park North. Program Host Rikki Santer, Columbus award-winning poet and educator who developed and taught a film studies curriculum to high school students and adults for sixteen years and a member of the Teaching Artist roster of the Ohio Arts Council. The Ohio Poetry Association is a nonprofit, volunteer-run, educational organization that exists to promote the art of poetry and support poets and others who appreciate poetry. Since being organized in Columbus in 1929, the OPA has become statewide in scope. We seek to assist poets, both amateur or professional, as they hone their craft.
