We ask guests to please arrive at 4:45PM at our Old Henry Road location just off the Gene Snyder. The tour will begin at 5:00PM The Tour will start with an in depth look at raw materials for both normal weight and light weight CMU, Pigments, and types of aggregates used. We will also discuss how to create mix designs and the process from mix design to production. How the product is conveyed to hopper, feed drawer and process to compaction. This will be followed by a visit to the control room to learn about procedures to produce a consistent mix design and the importance of curing process and use of stream room. We will also give an overview of sizes and textures typically made and packaging details. 6:00PM Following the tour guests will drive just down the street to our new showroom to get a first look at Lee’s Commercial Studio! Guests will enjoy a tour of the new showroom with drinks and heavy hors d’oeuvres. AIA Continuing Education Presentation CPG 019 - Overview of Concrete Masonry Production: Plant Tour Course Learning Units: 1 Overview: This course covers the entire process by which concrete masonry units are produced and prepared for shipment, including selection and processing of raw materials, batching and mixing, how automated block production equipment functions, and product processing options to provide color and architectural finishes. How producers handle materials transparency and sustainable construction considerations are also addressed. The course is taught by providing a tour of a concrete masonry plant during operation. Learning Objectives: • Understand the storage, processing and handling of the raw materials necessary to create concrete masonry units (CMU’s), including materials transparency considerations and usage of recycled content. • Gain knowledge regarding the production equipment and machinery used to create CMU’s. • Understand the production process moving from raw materials to finished products including conveying systems, block machines, vibration and compaction and the processing required to create different textures and architectural finishes. • Learn the processes involved in product curing, finishing, packaging, storing and shipping.
