We often think that "deepening" practice means accomplishing full expressions of asana. What if the "deepening" of ability were more about aligning and balancing each body, based on the needs of the student? As we advance in practice, we can grow the skills to see what each body needs to express the asanas in ways that offer balanced alignment and don't add to the imbalances we are wishing to correct, through yoga. In this weekend training, students will learn to truly see areas of the body that are tight and need opening, areas that are perhaps too flexible and need strengthening, through the lens of the connective tissue. Sam is a Myofascial Release Therapist as well as a Yoga Therapist and integrates these two modalities to offer a fresh, new opportunity to bring balance, less pain and heal injuries, through asana practice. "Why do we continue to offer yoga poses in the same ways, to people with different bodies and postures? Are we possibly adding to their structural mal-alignments? We can change this and I will show you how." This weekend will train your eyes, through a compassionate lens, to see what your students can't see. You will leave being able to offer them (and yourselves!) a new and integrative experience of yoga for alignment, based on the Anatomy Trains, joint and stretching research. You will feel excited by the new ways in which you will be able to assist and educate your students so that they are able to continue to practice, in ways that offer the most benefits for their bodies. "We must bring the asana to the body, not force the body into the asana." Trainees will also be given paperwork that they may keep for reference.
