The Women of Power Society and CEED bring you another exciting program celebrating the continued work and progress of women in our nation and our community. We are excited to have you hear from Justice Patricia Timmons-Goodson (Ret) and Kathy Keefe-Jensen. Enjoy a sit down brunch and networking. Come and enjoy networking with women in our community and learn about how far we have come! About Our Speakers: Justice Patricia Timmons-Goodson (Ret.) President Barack Obama appointed Patricia Timmons-Goodson to the United States Commission on Civil Rights in July 2014. Patricia Timmons-Goodson was most recently an Associate Justice on the Supreme Court of North Carolina from 2006 to 2012. She served as an Associate Judge on the North Carolina Court of Appeals from 1997 to 2005 and a District Court Judge of the Twelfth Judicial District of North Carolina from 1984 to 1997. The judicial selection system employed by North Carolina required her to stand before the voters in two statewide elections and three district elections during her judicial career. The twenty-eight year tenure on the bench was marked by distinguished work on each of the three courts. Her years of judicial service to the people of North Carolina have been recognized with awards such as the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, Liberty Bell, Appellate Judge of the Year, three honorary degrees, and induction into the North Carolina Women's Hall of Fame. Justice Timmons-Goodson began her career as a District Manager of the United States Census Bureau in the Department of Commerce from 1979 to 1980. Her professional quest for justice began as an assistant prosecutor and continued as a legal services lawyer in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Justice Timmons-Goodson is an active member of the American Bar Association, where she serves on the Editorial Board of the ABA Journal and the ABA Law School Accreditation Committee. She continues to invest her energies in North Carolina by serving on the Guilford College Board of Trustees, The Fayetteville Chapter of Links, Incorporated and the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Civil War History and Reconstruction Learning Center. Justice Timmons-Goodson received her B.A. and J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an L.L.M. from Duke University Law School. Kathy Keefe Jensen She was born and raised in Fayetteville. A graduate of Pine Forest High School, Kathy went on to East Carolina University and Methodist College to study business. After college, Kathy joined the family business and worked in retail, property management, and the financial part of the businesses. In 1993, Kathy married LTC Jerry Jensen and supported him in his military career through Fort Bragg, Germany, Virginia, Newport, RI and then back to Fayetteville, her hometown. When they were deciding on where to live Kathy and Jerry wanted to raise their children where she was born and raised. In 2005, Kathy opened An Affair to Remember Prom, Pageant, and Formal Wear. The past eight years on Council, Kathy has served on many boards and commissions. Kathy was appointed by Governor McCrory to be on the board of the North Carolina Youth Council. She is also very active in the Fayetteville-Cumberland Youth Council that she helped reactivate in 2014. Kathy was also recently appointed to the board of the Military Advisor Commission by Governor Cooper. Her involvement in other boards and commissions include FCEDC –Fayetteville-Cumberland Economic Development Commission, CVA- Core Value Awards, Gateways and Corridor, 911 Task Force Committee, Cumberland County Crown Coliseum, Fayetteville Police Foundation City Liaison, Boards and Commissions nominating committee and chair of the Parks and Recreation Bond committee. Kathy is committed to her city; she is a member of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, the Women's Giving Circle, the Junior League of Fayetteville, the Military Officers Wives Association, the Daughters of Penelope, and co-founder of the Women of Power Society. Her care and commitment to her neighbors and citizens of north Fayetteville is visible every day.
