Ages: 10 to 17 Skill level: Beginner Prerequisite skills: None Do you want an entry-level class on sewing and garment construction? Do you have a sewing machine but are uncertain how to use it? Join us for a hands-on introductory course for youth that will teach the foundational skills needed to construct simple garments. This class is perfect for the young aspiring sewist who is curious to try sewing or the self-taught sewist who would like to increase their knowledge and technical skill set. Previous sewing experience is not necessary. Only 5 places! Students will work on Janome HD-3000 and School Mate 7330 straight-stitch home sewing machines and Janome and Babylock home sergers. Students will: Cut and sew a tote bag;Learn sewing vocabulary, including sewing machine parts and apparel construction terminology;Learn how to thread and operate a conventional sewing machine, including trouble-shooting common issues;Receive instruction on how to read a commercial sewing pattern;Learn basic techniques to create sewn products, including how to pin and cut fabric and order of operations for construction; andReceive a complimentary Rightfully Sewn sewing pattern for a tote bag to continue sewing at home.A shopping list will be provided for students to purchase supplies ahead of class. Please note, a guardian will need to come into the Academy at the beginning of class to review and sign the following required forms: Participant Agreement, Drop-off Consent, and Emergency Contact forms. A Photo Consent form is not required but is greatly appreciated. Masks will be required for the duration of class.
