We’re bringing local artists and organizations together for Friday evenings at the Rail Park. Enjoy live music, hands-on activities, movie screenings, and more! These events are free, family-friendly, and open to the public. [PAST] Friday, May 27: Cancelled due to rain Join us for our first event in the series on May 27, from 6 PM - 8 PM, featuring poetry readings by People’s Paper Coop Fellows, and a cello performance by Aijee Evans. People’s Paper Coop will be previewing their upcoming art installation which highlights the impact of the criminal justice system on women in Philadelphia, and celebrates their individual and collective journeys towards freedom. [PAST] Friday, June 24: Plant Swap with Desiree Butler Join us on the Final Friday of June for a plant swap and evening social with refreshments, and educational mini-sessions with urban gardener and consultant Desiree Butler. Whether you’re a seasoned plant parent or new to caring for plants this event will connect you with other plant enthusiasts in the community. This event prioritizes exchange! BYO cuttings, potted plants, pots, soil, tools, and other materials to trade. Attendees are asked to please limit sales of plants and accessories. Friends of the Rail Park will provide a canopy for shade, refreshments, music, and some extra pots. This free event will focus on Book Arts and zine making, highlighting the interrelationship between self and community. Artist Gina Kim will guide participants through a prompt that will spark inspiration for book and zine creation. Participants will have the opportunity to have their work photographed and added to the Rail Park Time Capsule. Artists of all levels are welcome to participate - experience in book or zine making is not necessary! Book and zine making supplies and guidance will be provided. The conversations and artwork produced during this event will be part of a larger Mural Arts community engagement process for the installation of a new mural in Chinatown, designed by Gina Kim. Friday, August 26: Ride to the Rail Park*In collaboration with Trek and Indego, join us on a Ride to the Rail Park! This guided, 1.5 mile bike ride is open to riders of all levels. We will begin in Center City with riding and safety tips for beginners. We will bike around the community and end the ride at the Rail Park to enjoy refreshments and hang out with other bike advocates. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required. We'll meet at 5:45pm at 1923 Chestnut Street and end at The Rail Park (1300 Noble Street). *REGISTER FOR THE RIDE HERE! Looking to grab a drink after the event?
