WAKEFIELD - Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Wakefield Chief of Police Steven Skory have confirmed the ongoing investigation into a fatal single motor vehicle crash that occurred this week on North Avenue.
On Tuesday, July 26 at approximately 3:01 p.m. Wakefield Police responded to multiple emergency calls reporting a single car crash into a utility pole in the area of 64 North Avenue. The vehicle temporarily caught fire but was quickly extinguished by the Wakefield Fire Dept. The only occupant of the vehicle was the operator who was a 51-year-old female resident of Wakefield. She was transported to the hospital where she later died.
Following the crash the Wakefield Light Department responded to inspect the utility pole for safety. The accident is under investigation by the Middlesex District Attorney's Office and the Wakefield Police Department with assistance from the Mass State Police Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Team.
