Description

I took Ted in as a rescue last week when he was on his "last couple of days" after being picked up as a stray (twice), because I've always wanted a mastiff type dog. Ted is 100 lbs of tiger striped affection, a big goof ball, mellow in the house, loves to go for car/truck rides (and he's well behaved during the ride) he is pretty good on a leash and knows some basic commands such as come and sit. Those are the many positives...Now for the 1 negative. Ted NEEDS be an only dog. He doesn't like to share his humans attention with other dogs and has attacked and injured small breed male dogs (strangely, he'll chase cats, but doesn't seem interested in actually catching or hurting them...it seems to be only other male dogs) Today ( Thursday7/28) he is at the Vet getting neutered, and he was given his Distemper combination as well as a Rabies vaccination just last week. I would LOVE to keep this big galoot, but it's not fair to my Pugs, who now live in fear of him...and they were here first. He would make a really great dog for a single person or a couple who have no pets and can devote the time to finishing his training. I suspect that the neuter will take away much of his dislike for other male dogs, but I can't chance it, because I am a Pug breeders and have several little squash-faces running around the house. He's a good boy with a good temperament, who just needs the right home. I will ask a SMALL and negotiable rehoming fee, but my concern will mostly be with proper placement, so don't let money stop you if you feel that Ted might be a good choice for you. I will not place him in a home where he will be kept on a chain, and I believe that "inner city" placement would not be the best choice for him. He's a big guy who needs room to stretch him legs and wants a home where he can lay by your side watching movies. A fenced yard is advisable to help with self-exercise, but when I walk him with or without a lead, he stays close and comes when called. (This is out in a 20-acre pasture though, with few distractions...and he doesn't show any interest in cattle and horses when he's out there with me) Please call and we can talk about him, if you think you might be interested; I may be willing to let him go out for a trial stay with you, just to be sure he's a good fit, and if he's not, they you can return him. As I said PROPER PLACEMENT IS MY PRIMARY CONCERN, and I want both owner and Ted to be happy with the arrangements.
