Merriconegan Barns and Grounds: The Original Skolfield Homestead with Linda Barton, Larkin Keyes Sol, and Erik Sol
LATE RARE TREAT ADDITION TO THE SEASON!
If you’ve ever driven down Route 123 to Harpswell and wondered about the giant white farmhouse just over the line from Brunswick, this is the walking tour for you! The shipbuilding Skolfields lived here while they built up their business on the east side of the peninsula. The property changed hands a number of times but still retains much of its early 19th century charm.
Property co-owners Linda Barton and Erik and Larkin Sol will share the property history and show off the breadth of the exterior architecture, in the barns (which have been featured in books), and inside a portion of the farmhouse. You’ll see the commemorative Rotary plaque, mortise and tenon joinery in an attic, and the orchard planted shortly thereafter the Skolfields left the property.
Carpooling is strongly encouraged due to limited on-site parking. For those who drive, meet in the lower lot on Skolfield Drive, Harpswell, off Route 123 just over the town line. Skolfield Drive is a private road leading up to the farm.
Participants meet at starting point; driving directions and parking information provided upon registration. Please check-in with tour leader at least 10 minutes prior to tour time.
Tours are limited to 20 unless otherwise noted. PHC maintains a waiting list for each tour in case of cancellations. Most tours are 75-90 minutes, though tours outside of downtown may go slightly longer. Please dress accordingly for the weather and wear sturdy shoes, sunblock, and/or bug spray as needed.
TICKET SALES END AT 3:30 THE DAY BEFORE THE TOUR. If a tour is sold out, you may add your information to the waitlist and we will contact you if a ticket becomes available.
