Join The Us Space on September 27th , 2022 Volunteer to support is critical to our mission of food for better lives! Many working families are living paycheck-to-paycheck and their income often doesn't stretch far enough to cover all of the essentials of living, including healthy food. The Houston Food Bank's Portwall Pantry is an on-site pantry with extended hours to serve working families and individuals who can't access their neighborhood pantry. Click Here --->Houston Food Bank Registration link Description of Duties The Community Resource Center provides a minimal to no contact distribution opportunity through curbside pick-up to community members in the evenings. Individuals have the opportunity to select an appointment time and items that best fit their household needs. Volunteers will assist with delivering custom curbside orders to participants' vehicles. SPECIAL NOTES: Volunteers MUST be at least 16 years old and supervised by parent or guardian throughout the shift. Volunteers must be able to safely lift 20 lbs and be comfortable walking and standing inside and outside. Parking Information Our parking lot is located in front our main HFB building. In the event of large volunteer turnout, you may be directed to park in our overflow lot located behind the building and to enter the building through our rear entrance. Attire Information CLOSED-TOE SHOES REQUIRED - casual dress, long pants (preferred), t-shirt with sleeves. We recommend a bringing a jacket and work gloves if desired. Special accommodations needed? Just let us know before your volunteer shift so we can plan accordingly. REMEMBER to wear closed-toe shoes so your feet are protected and dress in layers so you will be comfortable throughout your shift. If you are scheduled for the KITCHEN, please wear LONG PANTS - NO SHORTS OR JEWELRY ALLOWED.
