Applications Close – 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 17, 2022 DEFINITION Under supervision, does unskilled to semi-skilled manual labor; mows, waters, fertilizes, plants, trims and cares for lawns, plants and trees. Does unskilled construction work and related work as required. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the direct supervision of the Superintendent or lead. Work may be performed with some independence and employees may be responsible for completion of some jobs without specific instruction or guidance. SUPERVISION EXERCISED Supervision of other employees is not a normal responsibility of this classification. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Unless specifically identified as a “Non-Essential Job Function”, the information included in this job description, and any referenced supplemental documents, is considered an “Essential Job Function”. Temporary modifications to provide reasonable accommodations, or transitional work assignments, do not waive any of the essential functions for this position. The following information is not all-inclusive. • Mows, fertilizes and waters landscaped areas. • Plants and cares for shrubs and trees. • Picks up litter and disposes of refuse. • Operates grounds equipment, tractors and other City vehicles. • Assists in installing and maintaining irrigation systems. • May clean, service and maintain public restrooms as well as other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES • Reasonable knowledge of or ability to learn the rules of safe operation of equipment and the precautions to be taken in order to avoid accidents. • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to act upon them accordingly. • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees and the general public. • Ability to learn proper procedures and to follow supervisor's instructions. • Ability to perform repeated heavy, physical labor for an extended period of time. • Ability to use mowers, tractors and other park maintenance equipment safely and efficiently. • Ability to grip and use small tools. • Ability to apply proper precautionary measures. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Education and experience requirements listed are minimum standards. Other equivalent combinations of education, certifications, training, and experience may be considered. Education: Graduation from high school or the equivalent GED certificate. Any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training which ensures the ability to perform the work may substitute for the above. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS & CERTIFICATIONS Possession of valid Oregon Driver's License by the time of employment, with acceptable driving record. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver's license within 30 days. Post-offer physical including drug screen. While performing the duties of this job; work is performed primarily outdoor with a noise level and weather which may vary.
