Description
The primary function of this position is to process parcel receiving packages and assist warehouse. Position may also interact with customers. Essential Duties/Major Responsibilities: (this list is not all inclusive) 1. Logging in parcel receiving packages. 2. Label freight with bar codes and lot tickets 3. Researching final destinations. 4. Noting damages. 5. Assist in unloading parcel trucks and separate contents. 6. Consistently follow all safety procedures and attend safety meetings. 7. Load and unload vehicles such as trucks, vans, flatbed trucks, box trucks or tractor-trailers. 8. Mark incoming freight appropriately. 9. Move freight around yard and warehouse using a forklift or other moving equipment. 10. Complete appropriate paperwork accurately. 11. Assist customers as necessary. 12. Consistently follow all safety procedures and attend safety meetings. Secondary Duties: 1. Warehouse cleanup. 2. Attend training and meetings as assigned. 3. Other duties as assigned. Job Scope: Work for this position is typically governed by established procedures and situations are generally routine/recurring. Job is made somewhat complex by the requirement to research improperly marked freight. Communication/Customer Contact: Communication skills are necessary as the position may interact with other employees, customers, vendors, contractors and/or suppliers. Contacts are typically face-to-face but may be via telephone. Communication is rarely about confidential information. Supervision/Management: Position is not supervisory in nature. DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: • High school education is required. • Minimum of three months of experience required. Most training is obtained on the job. • Or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the necessary qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position. Necessary Knowledge, Ability and Skills: • Good verbal communication and customer service skills (in English). • Ability to read and write English in order to complete paperwork. • Must exercise good judgment. • Ability to focus in a hectic environment to minimize errors. • Must be conscientious and aware of safety procedures and issues. • Ability to use telephone and computer. • Knowledge of good lifting techniques. • Ability to block and brace loads on a flatbed truck. • Knowledge of good lifting techniques. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS • Hazardous Material Certification • Forklift Certification PHYSICAL DEMANDS Must be able to push or pull heavy loads (up to 200 pounds). Must be able to lift and carry up to 70 pounds. Must be able to operate equipment in a warehouse, including a computer, which may include grasping, climbing, bending, handling, reaching, fingering, feeling/touching and repetitive motions of hands and feet. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is typically performed in a general warehouse environment but may also be conducted outside in the elements. Exposure to exhaust fumes is likely. Overtime may be mandatory when needed. Conditions may also include exposure to environmental noise.
