RE: The Once Again post: Always always always ask to see some video before taking a band or musician seriously. (unless of course, they give you the name of the band, and you know they are a legit steady working band) But if you've never seen or heard their name attached with gigs at places you've heard of, ask for video. In this day and age, if they don't have any video, they are hiding something.
Here's another clue. If they don't care about vocals, or vocal harmonies, they aren't pros. See for yourself. Think of any well known, busy cover band that plays the better venues. They all feature strong vocals, not just up front, but other members who provide good harmonies.
Ironically, you see these Musician Wanted ads that demand you send them personal info and videos, but they provide nothing in return? How do I know that your 'band' is not just a bunch of amateur hobbyists who get their jollies playing loud at some rent-a-rehearsal room?
My experience has been the Legit Working Bands that are seeking members do not hide behind anonymity. The real working bands will provide evidence of their professionality, website, musical style, etc...Whereas, the time wasters provide nothing about themselves, but ask for everything from you! If they have no videos to show, you can bet they aren't legit, and you will be playing nowhere but that Rehearsal room.
