Description

The City of Hickory Hills, Public Works Department, seeks a skilled maintenance worker to assist in field operations for the town’s water, sanitary sewer and street departments. The individual will be required to perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and construction tasks including but not limited: street lighting, pump station maintenance, plowing snow, water main repairs, sewer repairs, asphalt patching, concrete placement, and landscape repairs. The individual must have mechanical aptitude for the tools and equipment used at Public Works including experience operating light and heavy-duty motor vehicle equipment. The individual must be in good physical condition and have the ability to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, twist and stoop for long periods of time and lift up to 75 pounds. The candidate must work outside in all weather extremes. Individual must be available for paid overtime of 24-hour call outs and emergency duties. An individual who has experience in a Public Works environment, advanced education or certifications may qualify for a higher starting wage. Desired specialties include but are not limited to: electrical experience, water plant operators license, heavy equipment operations or other certifications in the field of Public Works. This position requires a critical thinker that can work safely to complete tasks. Person must be self-motivated and able to perform work unsupervised. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Good communication & customer service skills required. The individual must maintain a well-groomed, professional appearance appropriate for the position. Individual is required to have a CDL class “B” license with air brakes and should have a good driving record. They must live within 15 miles of the City or be willing to relocate within 6 months of hire to meet this requirement. A pre-employment physical exam with drug and alcohol screening is required. This position is a full-time union position at 40 hours a week, with medical insurance, paid sick, vacation and holiday time, pension benefits and more.
