Updates from Olympia Join Bob Battles, AWB’s General Counsel and Government Affairs Director Employment Law, in a discussion on updates from Olympia. In this presentation, Bob will give an overview of significant legislation that was introduced in the 2022 legislative session. He will provide insight on what those bills mean to employers, employees and HR. He will discuss what bills passed and what bills are expected to be seen in the 2023 session. As part of this presentation Bob will discuss how advocacy by each of you can make a difference in what passes during session. Presented by: Bob Battles, Association of Washington BusinessBob Battles is AWB’s General Counsel and Director of Government Affairs for Employment Law Issues.  He is responsible for workers' compensation, unemployment insurance, and other workplace issues, including wage and hour, workplace safety, immigration, paid family and medical leave, minimum wage, and paid sick leave matters.  He also oversees legal issue and election finance reform issues for the association.   Battles has more than two decades of experience as an attorney specializing in workplace issues and government affairs. He began his career with a 10-year stint in the office of the Washington State Attorney General. in the Labor and Industries Division. Battles also spent 12 years in private practice at several Puget Sound-area law firms, including Lane Powell PC and Eisenhower Carlson PLLC. While in private practice he represented clients in regulatory issues and complex litigation including the Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA) and industrial insurance defense. He has litigated cases at all levels in Washington State including the Washington State Court of Appeals and the Washington State Supreme Court.  He has argued before the United States District Court and the United States Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Battles is a graduate of Gonzaga University School of Law.
