DALY CITY, CA — A Peninsula shoplifting suspect displayed a machete after he was confronted by a loss prevention employee Sunday night and fled the scene on a San Francisco Muni bus, Daly City police said. An officer responded to a report of an in-progress shoplifting at around 6:30 p.m. at the Walgreens store at 6100 Mission St. according to police. The loss prevention employee said he confronted the suspect after he walked past the open checkout lanes and out into the parking lot without paying for the items, police said. The employee party kicked the basket the suspect was holding in his hand, and the merchandise fell onto the ground, according to police. The suspect then pulled his shirt up to display the wooden handle of a machete in his waistband and the blade running down his pants leg, police said. The employee also saw the handle of a pistol on the other side of the suspect's waistband, according to police. The suspect then picked up some items and stuffed them inside his shirt while threatening the employee before crossing the street and boarding a 14 Mission Muni bus, police said. The employee was not injured. Police said their investigation of this case is ongoing.
