Under supervision of designated supervisor, this position is responsible for performing interior and exterior building maintenance and custodial duties for the school. The Maintenance Custodian will perform tasks necessary for maintaining property, equipment and materials, and specialized repairs. Basic Requirements At least 24 years of age. To be of good moral character. Meet school and state health requirements, including TB test, immunizations, and physical examination. Submit necessary documents to complete personal file, including 3 references, diplomas, transcripts, fingerprinting and Florida’s Department of Health clearance form. Six (6) months or more related experience preferred. Education Requirements High School Diploma or above. Duties and Responsibilities Perform monthly inspection and maintenance necessarily for the exterior of the building, i.e. walls, roof, façade, plants, garden, etc. Evaluate necessary repairs (plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, painting, and drywall, etc.) Determine the expenses and submit report to the supervisor on a monthly basis. Perform minor electrical, AC, plumbing repairs as needed; change of AC filters, water filters, and garden wall filters. Repair or replace fixtures, toilets, pumps, etc. Maintenance necessary to maintain equipment, playground and building such as electrical, paint, and carpentry. Perform site inspections and insure that all equipment is operating properly. Perform inspections to assure that the building exterior and interior making sure that the floors and walls are always clean and painted if necessary. Help with the repair of classroom materials including furniture. Inspect and maintain the parking lot. Be present at the school entrance of the school at dismissal and arrival time of the children. Being alert of the security of the children, their families, staff and school. Restock supplies in bathroom, kitchen and other common areas. Empty all trash cans and replace liners, clean trash cans as necessary. Clean window sills and windows. Maintain janitor closets in a clean, organized and safe manor. Maintain janitorial equipment and tools in a clean, organized, and safe manner. Ensure that all hazardous material and chemicals are locked up and properly labeled and disposed as required. Utilize personal protective equipment and supplies (gloves and masks) as required. General maintenance of grounds. Essential Skills/Experience: Handyman experience, such as dry wall repair, painting and familiarity with basic tools and their use. Effective communication and interpersonal skills and effective client/customer service skills. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks. Ability to work effectively with a team. Ability to work independently as needed to support the group effort. Basic handling knowledge of chemical cleaning products. Must be able to walk and/or stand over 90% of the time. Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds.
